On May 26th the Club held our Speaker Series event featuring Andrei Bezrukov, a retired Russian intelligence officer, who, together with his spouse, had spent 25 years under deep cover in the US. Their story inspired the famous TV show The Americans.
Under the alias Donald Heathfield, Mr. Bezrukov built a successful career in consultancy and managed a firm specializing in corporate and policy strategic planning. He authored multiple scholarly works and patents in this area. A graduate of Harvard Kennedy School (although with his MPA’00 degree later rescinded), Mr. Bezrukov operated at the highest levels of US business and political circles. After his 2010 exposure and return to Russia, Mr. Bezrukov has advised the oil company Rosneft and taught at MGIMO, in addition to delivering geopolitical forecasting and risk assessment in various public associations. He has been awarded with multiple state honors of the Russian Federation.
We discussed Mr. Bezrukov’s life and lessons learned along his extraordinary path, as well as his expert opinion on building relationships, strategy and current geopolitics.
